Web / Wireless

DOCOweb technology provides a web portal that allows easy access to the core DOCOsoft system. Built using XML viewing technology, DOCOweb translates all document content to an arbitrary XML format. On request the DOCOweb server translates all content to suit the type of browser, browser types include all major W3C compatible browsers and all WAP 1.0 and above browsers. This truly world class technology means that DOCOsoft technology is accessible from any where.

Revision Control in DOCOsoft

An important problem in many computer applications is version control, i.e. managing work products that evolve into multiple versions. Version control is important for any design task, including software development, word processing, spread sheet applications, computer-aided design and manufacturing, databases and many other applications in which data is entered and revised frequently.

DOCOsofts Revision Control Engine (RCE) is a plugin that provides version control. RCE stores and manages an arbitrary number of revisions of files. It automates the storing, retrieval, logging, and identification of revisions of these files, and it provides selection mechanisms for composing configurations. There is no limit to the number of revisions RCE can handle. Furthermore, RCE works with data files of any format, including, but not limited to, ASCII text, source code, object code, word processor data, spread sheet files, CAD/CAM designs, data base formats, multi media formats, etc.

Advantages of DOCOsoft's RCE

Multiple Revisions
RCE stores and retrieves multiple revisions of an arbitrary file in a space efficient way. Changes no longer destroy the original, because the previous revisions remain accessible. Revisions can be retrieved according to revision numbers, symbolic names, dates and authors.

History of Changes
RCE maintains a complete history of changes and logs all changes automatically. Along with each revision, RCE stores the author, the date and time of check-in and a log message summarizing the changes. The logging function makes it easy to find out what happened to a module without comparing source listings or tracking down colleagues.

RCE minimizes storage
RCE needs little extra space for the revisions (only the differences). If intermediate revisions are deleted, the corresponding deltas are compressed accordingly.

Arbitrary Data Format
RCE can handle arbitrary data formats, including, but not limited to, ASCII text, binary code, CAD/CAM designs and word processor formats. Unlike RCS, it produces compact differences for all of these formats.

Release and Configuration
Control Revisions can be assigned symbolic names and marked as released, stable, experimental, etc. With these facilities, configurations of modules can be described simply and directly.

Automatic Identification
RCE automatically identifies each revision with name, revision number, creation time, author, etc. The identification is a stamp or serial number that can be embedded at an appropriate place in the body of a revision. The identification makes it simple to determine which revisions of which modules make up a given configuration.

Compression in DOCOsoft

Compression Options In DOCOSoft’s Products

Overview

DOCOsoft offers numerous compression options depending on the customer needs.

Using the compression options available in DOCOsoft viewing is faster, images use less storage space, and overall transfer costs of documents will be reduced.

Compression options can be broken into 3 main categories

  1. Document Compression (Bitonal Text Documents(Black & White))
  2. Color Compression (Color Images)
  3. Color Document Compression (Documents with both Text and Color)

1. Document Compression

For scanning of Bitonal Images we provide 2 compression algorithms –

- TIFF CCITG4

Recommended and industry standard compression which gives smallest file size for bitional images.

- TIFF CCITG3

Use this option if you are linking to applications that don’t support G4 compression.

2. Color Compression

The following compression engines are available for scanning of color images.

- JPEG

The standard JPEG compression algorithm. Use this format if the files are to be viewed outside of DOCOsoft, as JPEG is supported by most image applications.

- TIFF

This compression for Color produces file size similar to JPEG. Use this format if you want to use color in multi-page documents.

- JPEG2000 (Only available in DOCOsoft v2.82)

Newest compression algorithm superior to all other standard techniques. Produces file sizes much smaller than JPEG while maintaining a high level of quality.

- CMP (Recommended)

- This internal compression from DOCOsoft provides the smallest file size while maintaining the original image quality.

This compression provides extras security in that only DOCOsoft applications are able to view this file type.

All of the above options have the following 4 adjustments –

  1. Max Compression - Low Quality Image

Smallest File size but a lower quality image than the original.

  2. Medium Compression – Medium Quality Image

Average file size with average image quality.

  3. Low Compression – High Quality Image

Larger File size with quality very close to original.

  4. No Compression – Original Image Quality

This is referred to as a Lossless image where there the original image quality is maintained within the compression engine. This produces the largest file size.

3. Color Document Compression

- MRC Engine

DOCOsoft’s MRC compression is optimized for documents that contain both text and Color.

The MRC engine breaks an image into three different layers: foreground, background, and mask. Each layer is compressed separately using the best type of compression for that data type and is later uncompressed and recombined to restore the original image. This compression is most suited if you wish to OCR a color document.

Wide Format Document Viewing

Viewing Large Images In DOCOSoft’s Products

To minimize virtual disk requirements when viewing large documents DOCOsoft allows users to save a snapshot of the image(preview image) during import stage.

This image can be used for normal viewing but if user’s require the original Image for more detailed viewing it can be selected.

Enabled Creation of Preview Image

DOCOsoft has also developed On Demand loading where only the portion of the bitmap that is required is loaded into memory. As users pick a region to zoom into only that region of the bitmap is loaded into memory, uncompressed and displayed to the user.

DOCOsoft has applied all these technologies to its web interface.

Loading the Preview Image

Select [Settings->Settings] to display the settings dialog and select the Display tab to display the following.

Select [Load all of the Image into memory] to load the full image from disk into memory.

Select [Load Preview Image] to load the snapshot image into memory. If the Preview Image is not available all of the image is loaded into memory.

Other Display Settings

When viewing large color Images User’s have the option of displaying the image in High Speed(Low Quality) or Low Speed(High Quality).

With Low Speed High Quality setting DOCOsoft applies bilinear interpolation, to the image which results in a better looking image.
